I don’t think my assistant understood you correctly.

Not exactly my favorite saying when I’m driving to your office. Cancellations (and life, in general) happen, and I get that. But what I don’t get is when I’m picking up my colleagues and about to drive to your office, you cancel on my thirty minutes before our meeting.

Professional decency. Where did it go?

Sometimes it amazes me that certain individuals, who hold prominent positions in the community, can lack proper social norms and professional decency and still have their jobs.

I suppose that, with the advancements of social media and other forms of technological communication, business conventions are now gone to the wind. Why do b-schools continue to teach them?

Last Thursday, my professional mentor was gracious enough to volunteer a few hours out of his busy schedule to help UVic Business School students learn about the current trends of business networking in a session dubbed, “Working the Room.” During the Q&A, someone in the audience asked if it was a good idea to follow-up an interaction with a physical “Thank You” card. The answer was a resounding, “no.”

This example, along with my interaction this morning, seem to provide concrete evidence as to the going trend of business today.

But is canceling a meeting 30 minutes prior really okay?
